I have to go to Jersey tonight due to a party I had in 1986 when no one showed up. See, when I was a senior in high school, my parents went on a vacation and left me in charge. And, being a teenager, I had a party. Now, I was not one of the most popular kids. But I had friends. We were fringe sorts. You know, stoners, freaks, quasi-popular kids. Anyway. I invited everyone I was friends with. And I got someone to get me some booze. And I bought food. And not a single person showed up. Not one. Not even my best friends. NO one. I heard cars drive by slowly, checking out the "scene" or lackthereof, but no one came in. I mostly got over it. In fact, I forgot about it for YEARS. So as a result, I try and go to every party I am invited to. Especially if I think no one else will show. So tonight, D* and I and our friend A* will trudge to Jersey to be the only 3 people at a party. Because no one else will go. Because frankly, the host is a pain in the ass, much like I was at 17, only he's not fixed that problem yet. He's weird. Weirder than the rest of us. And no one goes to Jersey, even for someone fantabulous. But we will go. We'll go because I will never forget the way I felt that night, listening for car doors and eventually turning out all the lights.
