my commentary on tonight's women's hockey game:

canada completely deserved to win that game. why? because they played hockey and they played to win. the united states team played like girls.

in women's hockey, there is no checking. in hockey, as a sport, there is. male or female, checking and physical play is a necessity. it's not extraneous violence or boxing matches, it is important to how the game functions and how effectively you can play the game.

tonight, the canadian team played hockey within the rules of chick hockey. mostly. and they were penalized for every single infringement. the united states was not penalized.

why? because the refs were biased? i think not. i say they were not penalized because they were playing GIRLS' hockey. the canadians were just playing hockey.

and in doing so, they dominated the game. it was only in the last 7 minutes that the united states took off their skirts and got down to the business of playing the game. and then. then it got exciting.

it was embarrasing to watch. this is why people think women can't play sports. because they get on national television and play like girls.

i don't blame the women. i know what it's like. you want to check. you want to be physical. but you know that as soon as you do, you will end up in the penalty box for some stupid thing like roughing. which is the equivalent of jostling really.

so you play nice nice. when you want to beat the crap out of that center.

the worst part for me is that i have no idea why women aren't allowed to play the game. the only explanation i've heard is that the players have such a huge height range (the shortest woman on the u.s. team is 5-2 while the tallest is 5-11). i say, if this is the only reason, short women should quit and let the big girls play. they can go figure skate or do gymnastics or any of the sports that those of us who are over 5-6 were told we could never play. fuck em. sort out the tall girls and those who can take a hit and let them get on with the business of playing hockey.
