this morning i did my part to enhance the world view of new yorkers. i did it for cubiclegirl.

i was innocently waiting on line for my morning bagel. incidentally, i got a seat on the train which is probably why i was feeling happy.

a businessman came in, put all his bags down, and disrupted the order of the line. see. middle counter is where you order hot food. end is where you pay and/or get coffee. he waited til the end to order and looked confused. he asked me if he could get eggs on a biscuit. i knew then he was CG's folk.

i said "well, you can get fried eggs on bagels, rolls, toast...the rolls are really good. get egg, cheese, bacon on a roll."

which is what he did. and while we were waiting for our food, i did the unthinkable. i continued the conversation.

i said "so where are you from?"

tennessee. YES. tennessee. home of the piggly wiggly and chuckwagons.

so i say "i drove through there twice. and my best friend is from nashville."

yes yes. i know CG is not from TN. but cubesis lives there and that's where the rents saw Ms. June at the piggly wiggly (untrue). so sue me. i lied to some clean cut guy from tennessee. he will never know. i lie to strangers*. makes for better copy.

anyway. he says "really? where?"

and i say nashville. then i bring up chuckwagons. and talk chuckwagons for a few minutes. then my bagel-cc arrives. i say "have a wonderful visit." and he says "thank you. have a good weekend!" and i leave.

i envision him going back to memphis and telling everyone how nice new yorkers are.

all because of CG and the chuckwagon.

2 other lies i have told:

• gingi's dad is some high mucky muck with the kansas city chiefs. i was at some cocktail party and was entertaining someone with the story of how i became a chiefs fan. i told them that part because it simply sounded better.

• partygirl knows jason seahorn and says he is a freak. now. this has some basis in reality. well. she did have some project to do sometime that had something to do with like star jones and a seahorn jersey. and then i saw seahorn on an HBO special where he was in this group and it made me think he's a freak. so i just combined them.
